Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale is absent from this afternoon’s Premier League clash with Aston Villa after suffering a hip injury.

The former Sheffield United goalkeeper has been a huge success since his summer arrival from the Blades, establishing himself as Mikel Arteta’s No1.

Mikel Arteta has said Ramsdale will be out for “a few weeks”.

That will rule him out of the England squad for friendlies against Switzerland and Ivory Coast over the next 10 days.

There has been talk that the 23-year-old could usurp long-term No1 Jordan Pickford ahead of the World Cup in Qatar.

German international Bernd Leno, who lost his place in the Arsenal side to Ramsdale, comes in for his first league appearance since August.

The Gunners are also without Gabriel Martinelli because of illness.

The Brazilian is another young player who has been a vital part of Arteta’s side’s push for a top four place and is replaced in the XI by Emile Smith Rowe as the only other change to the side that started the midweek defeat to Liverpool.
