Victor Moses is ready to make up for lost time after scoring his first Chelsea goal for more than three years.

The winger, who signed from Wigan for £9million in 2012 and scored 10 times in his debut season, has become a forgotten man for the Blues since then, spending loan spells at Liverpool, Stoke and West Ham.

He has been overlooked by successive Chelsea managers despite playing well in pre-season matches during an annual return to the fold.

So his goal in last night’s 3-2 EFL Cup victory over Bristol Rovers, his first since contributing to a 3-1 Europa League victory against Basel in May 2013, could prove to be a landmark one.

“I was excited to get on the scoresheet, it was important for me as well as for the team,” said Moses, whose goal was sandwiched between two strikes from Michy Batshuayi as Chelsea maintained their 100 per cent record under new manager Antonio Conte. “I’ve always believed in the ability and the talent I’ve got and I’d like the fans to know there’s still a lot to come from me.”

Moses has remained popular with Chelsea fans during his time away from Stamford Bridge but in Conte it seems he has finally found a manager who shares that faith.

Reports suggest Chelsea turned down a bid from West Brom for the winger this month because Conte is so keen to keep him on board and he is now in contention to face Burnley in the Premier League on Saturday having started a Blues game for the first time since a 2-1 victory at Aston Villa away in May 2013.

“We’ve got a great manager here who gives the lads a chance to express themselves,” added Moses. “I’m pleased to be playing this season and I just want to keep working hard. Every pre-season I feel I’ve done well and it’s just about being given a chance. That was the thing that was missing. I’ve got that with this manager now.”
