Antonio Conte could rotate Chelsea again for Newcastle trip... but not because of FA Cup final

Antonio Conte has suggested he could make changes to his Chelsea team that take on Newcastle on Sunday despite his rotations backfiring in midweek.

For the visit of Huddersfield on Wednesday night, Conte made six changes to his Chelsea side that had beaten Liverpool just three days previously.

However, the Italian's plan failed to work as Chelsea were forced to come from behind to secure a 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge which has all but confirmed a finish out of the top four this season.

With Chelsea playing Manchester United in the FA Cup final six days after they take on Newcastle at St. James' Park - a must-win match for the Blues in the race for a top-four spot - Conte suggested he could still rotate his squad.

"I want to win. I want to win every game," Conte told reporters at Cobham. "For this reason, I'll try and make the best decision, also for the game against Newcastle.

"I want to win and try and get the three points, to continue to have the possibility – if someone sleeps in the last game, you must be ready. You must be ready. And only by getting three points.

"So every decision I make will be to try and win. Probably I can change something, but not because I'm thinking about the FA Cup final. Only because, maybe, some may be tired after two tough games in three days."

When then asked whether the match against Newcastle was the chance for some of his Chelsea players to prove they deserve to start at

Wembley, Conte said: "We have another game. Another game against Newcastle. Then, for sure, we have to try and finish this season and then to start to think about the final of the FA Cup.

"We have to go game by game, step by step. Now, it's important for us to be focused on the Newcastle game. Then, after that, we have one week – five days – to prepare the final of the FA Cup against United."
