Anthony Gordon remains a serious doubt for Newcastle’s trip to face Nottingham Forest on Saturday evening.

The winger was forced off at half-time of last weekend's 4-4 draw with Luton Town, to be replaced by Callum Wilson.

Gordon was pictured after the game on crutches and wearing a protective boot. While those were reportedly precautionary measures, the player underwent scans and has been unable to train ahead of the weekend trip to the City Ground.

Speaking to reporters on Friday, Eddie Howe said: “He hasn't trained this week. But we don't think the injury is serious.

“We're hopeful he'll be back sooner rather than later.”

It is another injury blow for Newcastle, who are already missing Alexander Isak, Joelinton, Joe Willock along with a host of first-team players.

However, Wilson returned last time out and Harvey Barnes was able to make his first appearance since September.

Gordon, who has seven goals and eight assists to his name this season, has featured in all but one of Newcastle's matches so far this season, with his sole absence down to suspension.
