Alisson to Liverpool transfer done subject to medical as Chelsea miss out on AS Roma goalkeeper

Brazil goalkeeper Alisson is set to be confirmed as a Liverpool player after agreeing a five-year deal with the Premier League side.

Liverpool agreed on Wednesday a deal close to £70million with AS Roma, a world-record fee for goalkeeper, with the signing set to be announced by both clubs by the end of the week upon completion of his medical.

Jurgen Klopp was prepared to stick with much-maligned goalkeeper Loris Karius for the forthcoming season unless a world-class replacement could be brought in, and in Alisson the Reds boss believes he has found such a talent.

Alisson’s arrival on Merseyside will signify a blow to rivals Chelsea who had identified the 25-year-old as a potential replacement for Thibaut Courtois.

As reported by Standard Sport, Courtois is in line to make a £35.5m move to Real Madrid after negotiations began last week.

With Chelsea resigned to losing Courtois, they will now need to consider alternate options having missed out on Alisson.

Leicester City goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel is one such option, while Chelsea could yet try to bring Petr Cech back to Stamford Bridge after his position as Arsenal’s No1 came under threat following the arrival of Bernd Leno.
