Alexandre Pato joins Chelsea: Former AC Milan striker 'looks chubby', says Ray Wilkins

Former Chelsea assistant manager Ray Wilkins has branded the club's loan signing Alexandre Pato 'chubby'.

The Blues signed Pato from Corinthians on an initial six-month deal with a view to making the move permanent if the striker proves a success at Stamford Bridge.

Pato scored 51 Serie A goals in 177 appearances during his time with AC Milan between 2007 and 2013, but has never matched those heights since fading into obscurity back in his native Brazil.

Wilkins, however, says the 26-year-old has 'reinvented' himself with a move to west London but believes it could be a while before Chelsea fans see their new signing in action.

Asked if the deal was a good fit, Wilkins said: "I don't honestly know.

"When he was at AC milan he was the boy wonder he was abnsolutely magnificent I thin he scored about 50 in 100 games.

Transfer Window: London's big deals

We've almost lost sight of Pato and now all of a sudden he once again reinvents himself coming to Chelsea.

I saw him come through the airport the other day, he looked rather jowly, a bit chubby, so he might need to work a little bit of work before he gets in the side.

If he shows what he did for AC Milan at Chelsea, the fella's going to be a revelation."
