Adam Lallana is close to signing a short-term contract extension that will see him finish the season with Liverpool.

The Englishman’s current deal is set to expire on July 1, a date by which the campaign would have been finished were it not for the recent lengthy hiatus necessitated by the spread of coronavirus.

Lallana was expected to bring a six-year stay at Anfield to a close at that point, with his reduced role in recent years a key factor in the decision to opt for a clean break.

But Jurgen Klopp is keen to ensure that the midfielder is available to see out the remainder of a delayed 2019-20 schedule.
