AC Milan continue to sweat over Rafael Leao’s fitness after he missed first-team training just over 24 hours before their huge Champions League showdown with Inter Milan.

The Portuguese forward has been Milan’s chief threat this season, as exemplified by his star turn against Napoli in the last round.

But an injury to his thigh after just 11 minutes of Saturday’s Serie A game against Lazio has put his participation in the semi-final first leg in doubt.

On Tuesday, Leao trained alone with a physio during Milan’s open session - just a few yards away from the squad as they were put through their paces.

Rossoneri fans are eagerly awaiting a decision from coach Stefano Pioli, who has provided an update into his plans for the injured 23-year-old.

“Field work was scheduled for today,” he told Sky. “Tomorrow morning he’ll try to push and if he’s okay he will be present, otherwise he won’t.

“He could start, he could be able to play... and he may not even be on the bench. It will depend on the type of work he can do, because with his quality and characteristics he must be 100 per cent. Let's see, it's still open.”
