Arsene Wenger believes Aaron Ramsey could still remain an Arsenal player beyond next summer.

Ramsey has entered the final year of his contract at the Emirates and while he has insisted he will not force through a transfer during the January transfer window, a move away from north London appears likely.

The Wales international has admitted talks over a new have broken down but Wenger – who himself tried to get the player to pen fresh terms before leaving Arsenal last May – believes there is still hope.

“We tried that before and it still can happen,” Wenger told reporters when asked if he would give Ramsey a new contract.

“I don’t really know what is happening at Arsenal. Sure, Aaron Ramsey is in a strong position now and he will use this position.

“But I don’t know how far Arsenal will go in terms of giving him a huge contract. These things were once my responsibility but not anymore. I am happy about that.”

Manchester United and Liverpool have been weighing up January bids for the former Cardiff City youngster, with Arsenal yet to decide whether to try to cash in on him while they still can in January.
