Russian gymnastics has sunk to a new low with the men's team failing to get a medal in the Olympic team competition for the first time since the 1952 Helsinki Games.

Despite having four-times Olympic champion Alexei Nemov (right) in their midst, the traditional powerhouse of gymnastics arrived in the Greek capital as the rank outsiders and their humiliation was complete when they finished sixth on Monday.
