Fiji stun sorry France

12 April 2012

Fiji produced the upset of the World Cup to date with a thumping 42-6 victory over France at WIN Stadium on Saturday.

The emphatic win leaves Joe Dakuitoga's side in command of Pool 2 ahead of Wednesday's showdown with Ireland, while France's chances of progressing beyond the pool stages came to an abrupt end.

Newcastle Knights winger Akuila Uate was the star for the victors, scoring three of his side's seven tries, while former Kangaroo Jarryd Hayne crossed twice in a dominant individual performance.

There was little reason for John Monie to smile as the highly-fancied French self-destructed against their fired-up opponents, spurred on by a partisan crowd.
