Fernando set to face England

14 April 2012

Sri Lanka have recalled pace bowler Dilhara Fernando to their 14-man squad for next month's ICC Champions Trophy in England.

Fernando, who has been hampered by a back injury, replaces middle-order batsman Thilina Kandamby in the only change to Sri Lanka's victorious Asia Cup squad.

Sri Lanka are in the same group as Zimbabwe and England.

Chairman of selectors Ashantha de Mel believes the addition of a fifth fast bowler will give skipper Marvan Atapattu greater choice.

"Dilhara has been bowling well in the nets and his inclusion gives the tour selectors a better option," he said. "We expect the top six batsmen to score the runs which leaves the seventh spot for an all-rounder, either Farveez Maharoof or Upul Chandana."

New Zealand have selected seam bowler Kyle Mills ahead of James Franklin in their 14-man squad. Mills was hit by injury during their tour earlier this summer and did not feature in their triangular one-day series success against England and the West Indies.

Coach John Bracewell believes Mills offers more flexibility than left-arm paceman Franklin, who did well after being called into the squad and has spent the past few weeks playing in the County Championship for Gloucester.

Instead, Franklin has been included in the New Zealand 'A' party to tour South Africa next month. Bracewell said: "The nucleus of this squad plays well as a team and have the class required to continue winning at this level."
