Eriksson calls for calm

13 April 2012

England coach Sven-Goran Eriksson has pleaded for peace when England take on Germany in their World Cup qualifier in Munich on 1 September.

"I know it's an historic match between two big footballing countries but I hope there will be no declaration of war," said the Swede.

"For 90 minutes the two sides will be enemies but I hope there will be no problems with the fans."Meanwhile, Argentina coach Marcelo Bielsa has left Gabriel Batistuta out of his squad for the World Cup qualifier against Brazil on 5 September.

Despite being omitted, the Roma striker is almost certain to be in the squad for the next year's finals in Japan and South Korea.
