Early warning from Powell

13 April 2012

Harlequins coach Rob Powell has warned his team Gateshead Thunder will make a fast start as they bid for a giant-killing in the fourth round of the Challenge Cup tonight.

Powell's side travel to the North East to face a side from National Championship 1, which is two divisions below Super League.

Quins thumped London Skolars, who are also in Thunder's division, 70-6 in a pre-season match but faced some early pressure.

Powell said: "I know the scoreline was a big one against Skolars, but for the first 20-25 minutes it was a really decent hit out and against Gateshead it will be a similar thing.

"Any team in the Challenge Cup is not going to roll over and as rugby league players they'll be proud of playing for their club. We've got to make sure we do things well in the first 20 minutes to nullify any threats.

"Although on paper the quality of the player is not going to be as high as Super League, they are still going to be a decent outfit."
