Drogba and Deco pay price for United humiliation

Simon Johnson13 April 2012

Didier Drogba and Deco have paid the price for Sunday's defeat at Manchester United as both are expected to be dropped for tonight's FA Cup replay at Southend.

Drogba won't even be on the bench for the match at Roots Hall after boss Luiz Felipe Scolari was left disgusted by his effort in the 3-0 loss at United.

The Ivory Coast international, who Chelsea would consider selling now if a good bid came in, has scored just three goals and also brought more bad publicity on the club when he threw a coin at Burnley fans during a Carling Cup tie.

Scolari complained yesterday that some of his squad have only been playing at 35 per cent of their potential in the last five games. He said: "If I have given players only one chance then maybe some of them will complain they have only had one opportunity."

Deco's omission is a surprise as Scolari brought him to the club in the summer but the midfielder has looked ineffective since returning following a hip injury in October.
