Don't be sad, says Sir Bobby

14 April 2012

Newcastle return to the Premiership tomorrow still suffering from a hangover after their Champions League dreams were ripped apart.

Sir Bobby Robson's men saw another European cash bonanza snatched from their grasp on Wednesday night as Partizan Belgrade secured a penalty shoot-out victory at St James' Park to leave Newcastle waiting for today's UEFA Cup draw.

"We have to forget about the Champions League," Robson said today. "It's gone. It's Birmingham tomorrow and then there's a break and then we play in the UEFA Cup.

"It's a bit of excitement. It's not the excitement of the Champions League but it will still be exciting.

"Four years ago, we were worried about going into the First Division. Here we are going into Europe and everybody is miserable and sad.

"It may be disappointing but it's got to be put into perspective."

Newcastle will again without Wales striker Craig Bellamy, who is ruled out with a knee injury, and Nolberto Solano picked up a groin strain in midweek. Lee Bowyer is available after missing the Partizan game through suspension.
