Delaney: We must forget England clash

14 April 2012

Mark Delaney has admitted that Wales can't help thinking about England ahead of their World Cup qualifier at Azerbaijan on Saturday.

The Aston Villa defender said: "It is hard not to think about England because it is the biggest game for us in the group, but if we keep talking about that there is a danger of missing the boat in these next two games and letting ourselves down. To us they are the biggest games.

"We have got ourselves on a good run of results again after the disappointment of the play-offs, and we are going into this campaign full of confidence."

Northern Ireland, who have not won at home since 2001, face Poland in Belfast on Saturday and Wales in Cardiff on Wednesday.

Scotland take on Spain, who are expected to include Arsenal's in-form striker Jose Antonio Reyes, in a friendly in Valencia tomorrow night.

Spain is at present sweltering in a September heatwave and the Scotland players have sweated their way through some gruelling training sessions.

Norwich defender Malky Mackay admitted: "Thank God we will be playing at 10 o'clock at night.

"It has been baking in training. It is something we will have to have prepared for by getting the right diet and taking on board lots of water."
