De Silva is ditched by Sri Lanka

David Lloyd13 April 2012

Sri Lanka have dropped Aravinda de Silva, their most experienced batsman, for Friday's opening one-day international against England.

De Silva, who has appeared in 275 limited-overs matches, was not among 11 names announced by the selectors.

Sri Lanka will pick another four players for the game in Dambulla after watching the President's team against England here tomorrow.

As de Silva has not been selected for that contest, however, the 35-year-old appears to be out of favour.

Sri Lankan officials, meanwhile, insist Friday's game will go ahead in Dambulla.

This is despite the fact workmen are still trying to complete some of the stands at the new ground.
