Davies must await his chance

Simon Davies knows he faces a battle to be in the Tottenham side for Sunday's home game against West Brom. Having lost his place after being sent off in the defeat away to Arsenal, he was suspended for Saturday's draw at Birmingham.

Wales international Davies said: "It is going to be tough to get back because the lads have played well in those two games."

Spurs have a chance to climb back into the top six. Glenn Hoddle's side appear to have come out of a poor run of form with a home win over Leeds and a point at Birmingham, with the former England manager having reverted to his favoured wing-backs system.

Gus Poyet has found a niche behind strikers Teddy Sheringham and Robbie Keane but Davies, Spurs' best player earlier in the season, has found himself squeezed out by the return of Christian Ziege. Hoddle must find another centre-back to line-up alongside Dean Richards and Ledley King as Yugoslav Goran Bunjevcevic serves a one-match ban after five bookings. Chris Perry and Anthony Gardner are the main candidates.

Full- back Mauricio Taricco could be in line for a return after finally recovering from his groin problems and Scotland goalkeeper Neil Sullivan is likely to be back on the bench. He has returned to full training after breaking a thumb in August. Sullivan said: "It has been a long time out but it is great to be back with the lads again.

"I've had a couple of days with (goalkeeping coach) Hans Segers and feel like I'm ready to put myself up for selection."
