Davenport suffers neck bone fracture

12 April 2012

Watford have confirmed that on-loan West Ham defender Calum Davenport fractured a bone in his neck during the 1-1 draw with Charlton on Saturday and has left the Championship club.

Davenport was making his debut for Adrian Boothroyd's side but was forced to leave the field on a stretcher in first-half stoppage time after striker Darius Henderson landed awkwardly on him.

The 25-year-old is set to remain in hospital under observation for the next few days, and Boothroyd said: "Calum heard a crack in his neck and he lost the sensation in his fingers and he is in the hospital now."

He added: "When it is a neck injury you have to get him off the pitch straight away and we hope it is not too bad."

The Hornets are expected to move in the transfer market to bring in a replacement as Davenport himself was signed as cover for Danny Shittu - who is away with the Nigeria squad at the African Nations Cup.
