Heather Knight is hoping tonight’s Women’s Cricket World Cup semi-final against South Africa is not as nerve-racking as England’s tournament so far — or the teams’ meeting at this stage five years ago.

England had a slow start to this tournament, including losing to South Africa. But they have stayed alive in their title defence and made it to tonight’s semi-final in Christchurch.

The winners will meet Australia in the final after they swept past West Indies last night.

Then-hosts England crept past South Africa in a thrilling semi-final in 2017, and skipper Knight said: “If it’s anything like the other games in this tournament, it will be [nail-biting].

“They’re a quality team and we’re going to have to bring our best cricket. We’d love to have the same result as 2017, but it would be nice if it wasn’t as close.”
