Sachin Tendulkar torments Aussies with century

10 April 2012

Sachin Tendulkar raced away to his 49th century to put India in the driver's seat on the third day of the Second Test against Australia in Bangalore.

Resuming on 128 for two, the hosts never looked in any trouble, with Tendulkar - who yesterday became the first man to reach 14,000 runs in Tests - passing 150 after running riot among the bowlers.

Batting partner Murali Vijay played the supporting role with aplomb as he made his first Test century, eventually falling for 139, to leave India on 346 for three in reply to Australia's 478 all out.

Australia had no answer to the hosts' batting, giving away 96 runs in a 27-over morning session that included 12 boundaries and two sixes.

Tendulkar started proceedings in emphatic fashion, smashing two boundaries in the first over to bring up his 50, and he passed his 11th century against the Aussies with a six.
