Sir Andrew Strauss is to step down from his roles at the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) next month.

The former England captain has been working as a strategic advisor to the ECB Board, as well as chair of the Performance Cricket Committee.

“I’ve really enjoyed my time at the ECB and am proud of having contributed to a successful period for our England teams,” Strauss said in a statement.

“With increasing commitments outside of the organisation, sadly I’ve decided it’s time to step away from my current role. I wish the new Board all the very best as it continues in its mission to grow our game.”

Last year, off the back of England’s Ashes drubbing in Australia, Strauss led a high-performance review into the state of men’s cricket but the report’s key recommendations to shake up the domestic game’s schedule and structure were rejected by the 18 first-class counties.

Prior to his current stint at the ECB, Strauss had spent the three-and-a-half years up until October 2018 as director of cricket, helping kickstart the white-ball revolution that led to the following year’s World Cup success. He also briefly reprised the role on an interim basis prior to Rob Key’s appointment last year.

The 46-year-old will formally step down at next month’s AGM, where the appointment of four new non-executive directors will be ratified.

They are: Penny Avis, currently a director at golf’s European Tour; Jennifer Owen Adams and Gareth Williams, the chairs of Cricket Wales and Glamorgan, respectively; and Baroness Zahida Manzoor.
