Football fans have been laying tributes outside of Fiorentina’s stadium following the sudden death of club captain Davide Astori.

The Italian side announced on Sunday morning that the 31-year-old have died following a ‘sudden illness’, and all top flight matches in Italy were soon postponed out of respect.

It was not long before tributes arrived at Fiorentina’s stadium, Stadio Artemio Franchi, as supporters fastened messages of condolences to the railing surrounding the ground.

A large banner reading ‘Ciao captain’, goodbye captain in Italian, was draped outside.

All seven of Sunday's Serie A games were postponed following the news. Fiorentina had been due to play at Udinese.

A tweet from the league read: "Shocked by the tragic news, the whole of Serie A supports the family of Davide Astori and Fiorentina. All the games scheduled today are postponed as a sign of mourning."
