Carl Froch insists David Haye must convince against Tony Bellew - 'Just winning is not enough'

David Haye needs to produce a convincing performance against Tony Bellew this weekend, according to Carl Froch.

Haye has been installed as a clear favourite by the bookmakers and has already spoken of his desire to fight one of the biggest names in the heavyweight division if he beats Bellew.

Anthony Joshua has been touted as a potential opponent for the Londoner but Froch is adamant Haye will not be an appealing prospect for any reigning champion unless he dazzles against Bellew.

"For David Haye, this fight was already a big risk but it seems to be turning into an even bigger risk," Froch told Sky Sports.

David Haye launches into expletive-laden verbal attack on Tony Bellew

"The last thing he needs to do is struggle through, no matter what the result is. Winning is not enough.

"If he loses to Bellew, it is the end of him. If he struggles and doesn't look good, the win won't be enough.

"David wants to move on to bigger and better things at heavyweight, so if he does struggle - even if he wins - I am not sure where he goes next," said the 39-year-old.

Haye travelled to Germany earlier in the week, leading to reports he had suffered an Achilles injury ahead of fight night.

But Bellew and promoter Eddie Hearn have both dismissed any suggestion that the fight could be postponed, with the Liverpudlian warning Haye he is in for "a nasty shock" at the O2 Arena.
