Calzaghe rules out Hopkins rematch

12 April 2012

Joe Calzaghe has ruled out a rematch against Bernard Hopkins after his split-decision victory over the veteran Philadelphian in Las Vegas on Saturday night.

Calzaghe said he has no reason to grant the 43-year-old - who was ungracious in defeat - another chance and will instead look elsewhere for fights to extend his 45-fight unbeaten record.

"His style doesn't gel into an exciting fight, so of course I won't give him a rematch," said the Welshman. "Why should I? It was pretty close, but I felt I won the fight."

Calzaghe is expected to turn his attention to former four-weight world champion Roy Jones, who watched from ringside and afterwards stressed his willingness to come to Cardiff's Millennium Stadium.

Jones said: "I would love to fight Joe in front of all those fans in Wales. I hope we will have the deal done next week to fight on November 15. I would see it as the best moment of my career."

And Calzaghe added: "Roy Jones is a tremendous ambassador for the sport and he can still fight. He's still got that speed and that bit of magic there. But I've beaten one legend and I'll beat another one."
