Bruce stays calm after Palace stormer

Crystal Palace 5 Grimsby 0

Steve Bruce promised he will not get carried away by Crystal Palace?s 5-0 thrashing of Grimsby.

American international Jovan Kirovski scored the first, Tony Popovic the next two, and Dougie Freedman and Clinton Morrison put the icing on the cake of Palace?s biggest win of the season.

Bruce said: ?The players deserve a pat on the back. They won 5-0 and thoroughly deserved it.

?But I can?t get carried away by one result because I don?t know what I will get week in and week out from my team.

?It is a Jekyll and Hyde situation that we have to eradicate and there is still a lot of work to do. We owed the supporters that performance because we have been disappointing recently.?

Palace had suffered three straight defeats before this game and conceded 11 goals. Before the floodgates opened, Grimsby goalkeeper Danny Coyne made a good save to stop Morrison, and then the Palace striker was unlucky when he hit the post.

The visitors? best effort came from a fierce 25-yard free-kick from Stuart Campbell.
