Great Britain's team pursuit squad, featuring the returning Bradley Wiggins, qualified fastest for Sunday afternoon's final at the Track World Cup in Manchester.

After the women's team pursuit squad won gold on day one and Sir Chris Hoy took the Keirin title on day two, Britain were seeking further success on the final day of the competition.

There was much expected of Wiggins - competing in his first team pursuit since taking the Olympic title in Beijing in August 2008 - Geraint Thomas, Ed Clancy and Steven Burke and the quartet did not disappoint, clocking three minutes 57.471 seconds in advancing to the final.

Britain will ride off for gold against New Zealand, who finished in 4mins 01.347secs.

Lizzie Armitstead was ranked eighth in the women's omnium with two events remaining.

The 22-year-old from Otley was sixth in the three-kilometre individual pursuit in 3:43.127.

Jason Kenny, Sir Chris Hoy and Matt Crampton, representing Sky Track Cycling, can claim bronze at best in the men's team sprint after qualifying in third place.

The Britons clocked 44.049secs in the penultimate heat, with Germany earlier setting the standard at 43.847.

France rode in the final heat and stopped the clock in 43.633 to progress to meet Germany in the final, with Sky set to ride for third place against Australian trade squad Team Jayco-AIS.
