Tyson Fury insists he never dreamed about becoming unified heavyweight champion of the world.
The ‘Gypsy King’ is finally set to meet Oleksandr Usyk in one of the biggest fights boxing has to offer. Not since Lennox Lewis between 1999 and 2000 has the heavyweight division had a unified world champion.
Fury and Usyk were originally scheduled to fight on February 17 but the bout was postponed until May 18 after the Brit suffered a cut eye during a sparring session.
It is the first time Fury will have boxed since he narrowly edged past the then-novice Francis Ngannou to a points victory in October.
Usyk, meanwhile, returns to the ring for the first time since defending his WBO, WBA and IBF titles in controversial fashion against Daniel Dubois in August.
It is a hugely-anticipated fight years in the making and will see the victor written in the history books but Fury insists becoming unified world champion is not his primary objective.
In fact, he believes long-term rival Anthony Joshua cares far more about that legacy
"It's never really been a quest of mine and that's just being honest. I've always said it was other people's dream,” he told Sky Sports.
“It was Joshua's dream to be undisputed. It's no lie, it's all he ever talked about his whole career, 'Road to Undisputed…' It's never been my dream.
"To be an undisputed heavyweight champion of the world is a bonus and I'll take it no problem. Just like I'll take a million dollars if you give it to me out of the cupboard. I'll take it, but I'm not expecting it. I never expected to be in this position."
