Bowyer pondering Blues move

14 April 2012

Lee Bowyer is expected to decide by the end of the week whether to make the move from Newcastle to Birmingham.

The former England midfielder is understood to have held talks with the midlands club after being given permission by the Magpies.

City manager Steve Bruce, who is now away on holiday, admitted his admiration and interest in Bowyer after completing the signing of Chelsea striker Mikael Forssell.

It is understood Blues would be reluctant to pay a major transfer fee for Bowyer if they have to match his current £45,000-a-week wages.

They may be willing to part with around £500,000 if Bowyer helped to keep them in the Premiership for another season - but little more than that.

However, Bowyer could become available if Scott Parker completes his expected move from Chelsea to Newcastle.

Birmingham chairman David Gold is convinced Bruce could get the best out of the 28-year-old if he decides to move.

Gold said: "Lee Bowyer's record speaks for itself and we know that Steve Bruce is special in getting the best out of players with his man-management skills. He has shown that on so many occasions."
