Becks: Good to be back

12 April 2012

David Beckham helped inspire Real Madrid to a come-from-behind 2-1 win over Athletic Bilbao and then spoke of his delight at finally being back on the pitch.

The midfielder also shrugged off suggestions about a possible move to America, insisting once again that he is happy in Madrid.

Beckham, who has missed Real's previous three matches through injury, said: "I am very happy to be back playing, for the win and because I have felt comfortable in the centre of the pitch."

With the former Manchester United man out of contract next summer, the rumour mill about possible destinations should he choose to leave Real has been in full swing in recent months.

A potential move to Major League Soccer in America has been widely touted, but Beckham has been quick to play down those reports.

"The world's press are always talking, but I am happy at Real Madrid and I am not thinking about me going to the United States."

With leaders Barcelona being held to a 1-1 draw by Levante on Saturday, Real knew they could cut the difference to their arch-rivals to one point with victory over Athletic.

Athletic`s Luis Prieto fired in from long-range midway through the first half but the half-time introductions of Beckham and striker Ronaldo served to give Real more of an attacking edge in the second half though, and it was the prolific Brazilian hitman who drew the teams level in the 64th minute.

Then, after Athletic had been reduced to 10 men following the dismissal of Aritz Aduriz, Real netted a late winner when Roberto Carlos smashed a low shot into the corner of the net from 30 yards out.
