Beckham told: Stay away from Brazil match

13 April 2012

David Beckham was today advised to stay away from today's Brazil clash with Belgium in case it caused a riot.

It is understood that Beckham and several other players were considering attending the match in Kobe as England will play the winners on Friday. The FA security staff were concerned that crowd control would be a problem if Beckham decided to attend.

The Japanese fans are already at fever pitch over the Manchester United star and his appearance in the stadium might have threatened his safety and that of other England players.

Beckham today revealed that he is continuing to have intensive treatment on his left foot between matches. The England star, who broke a bone two months ago, suffered cramp towards the end of the match against Denmark.

"It was the first time I had worn studs since the injury so it was to be expected, he said. "I'm still having lots of treatment between games and the masseur works hard at loosening it up before I play.

The England game with Denmark was the first head-to-head clash for the TV broadcasters since the tournament began - and was won by the BBC by almost four to one. Unofficial figures show that the BBC notched up 12.4 million viewers to ITV's 3.4 million.
