Barnet caretaker-manager John Still believes his side will avoid relegation despite slipping to a 1-0 defeat at Cardiff that left them fifth from bottom of the Third Division.

Former Leyton Orient winger Josh Low scored in the second half to consign Barnet to their 21st defeat of the season

It is 16 games since Barnet, who have played more games than any of the teams below them, won away from home but Still said: "I'm sure we will be safe come the end of the season."

They are only four points off the bottom spot and desperately need to pick up a victory against Cheltenham at Underhill on Saturday.

Still, who took over the team reins following the departure of Tony Cottee, added: "We battled well for the 90 minutes and I think we deserved a share of the points.

"Cardiff have spent a lot of money to get where they are and I'm very proud that my team of youngsters and free transfers were equal to them for most of the game."

Cardiff have scored 82 League goals this season yet the Barnet defence never gave them a clear opening until the 68th minute when Low scored.

Barnet could have taken the lead midway through the first half after a John Doolan shot had been tipped over by Carl Muggleton, who was making his debut in the Cardiff goal.

Darren Currie whipped over the corner and Barnet skipper Greg Heald leaped to send a firm header inches over the crossbar with the goalkeeper beaten.

"We have had two tough away matches at Scunthorpe and Cardiff and my players have acquitted themselves well in both games," said Still. "I am positive we will get the points needed to ensure safety."
