Back to basics for Rusedski

13 April 2012

Greg Rusedski was back on the practice court today as he attempts to sort out a terrible slump in form.

Britain's No 2 lost 6-3, 6-4 to Spaniard Alex Corretja in the first round of the Masters Series event in Hamburg.

He has now failed to progress beyond the second round of any of the six tournaments he has played since beating Andre Agassi to win the Sybase Open in San Jose in March.

It was never going to be easy for Rusedski against 10th seed Corretja, a clay court specialist and twice a finalist in Hamburg.

Rusedski's defeat ends British interest in the tournament.

Britain's No 1, Tim Henman, suffered a shock exit to German wildcard Lars Burgsmuller in the first round yesterday.

Russia's Anna Kournikova has withdrawn from the forthcoming French Open with a broken left foot.

Kournikova suffered the injury during a practice session in late February and has not played since.
