Aussies rock India

13 April 2012

Only 11 overs were possible on the opening day of the fourth and final Test in Mumbai but that was still time enough for Australia to leave India in some trouble on 22 for two.

Light rain in Mumbai saw the whole of the morning session washed out but the match was able to begin at around 2pm local time.

However, India were quickly on the back foot as they slumped to 12 for two with both their openers back in the pavilion.

Having won the toss and opted to bat, India lost Virender Sehwag for eight when he was bowled by Glenn McGrath, the Australian paceman finding the top of the batsman's off-stump with a delivery that went between bat and pad.

And with the very next ball, Jason Gillespie trapped India debutant Gautam Gambhir lbw for three.

That brought together the experienced duo of Rahul Dravid and Sachin Tendulkar, and although their powers of concentration were put to the test by another lengthy rain delay, the pair ensured India suffered no more losses before bad light brought an early end to the day.

Dravid was an unbeaten on nine at the close, a knock that included an edge through the slips that went for four, while Tendulkar, having survived a run-out chance, was alongside him on two not out.

Australia hold an unassailable 2-0 lead in the four-match series.
