England’s Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain may find their opportunities limited at Arsenal after the arrival of Alexis Sanchez, according to Jamie Carragher.

Sanchez arrived at the Emirates from Barcelona for £31.7m last week following a string of excellent performances playing for Chile at the World Cup.

Although the 25-year-old can play through the middle, he is predominantly a winger, and this is something which Carragher believes may negatively impact Walcott and Oxlade-Chamberlain’s chances of regular first-team football at the Emirates.

Speaking to Sky Sports News, Carragher said: “He’s a great signing for Arsenal and he’s something they need as well.

“I’m not sure where he’s going to play because I don’t think he’s an out-and-out centre forward.

“It may impact on Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. We’re talking about young, English players, but his predominant position for Barcelona is in the wide areas.

“For Chile, he played through the middle and he could do that, but I don’t think he’s an out-and-out centre forward and that may have an impact on Walcott and Oxlade-Chamberlain getting in the Arsenal team.”
