Arsenal deny Macca link

14 April 2012

Arsenal today denied Sergio Garcia's claim that they are in talks with Real Madrid midfielder Steve McManaman.

The Spaniard, who teed off this morning at The Open with Tiger Woods, is a huge Real fan and suggested that Arsenal were keen on bringing McManaman back to England. The Gunners, though, have rejected the link, which will be a disappointment to the club's supporters, who have seen their team's summer transfer dealings overshadowed by events at Chelsea.

However, as for Real's signing of David Beckham, Garcia added: "I think it's great. He's a good footballer who gets a lot of exposure around the world and that's good for the team."

Arsenal have also insisted that the new Ashburton Grove Stadium project will not be delayed by any further legal challenge in the European Court of Human Rights by EarthRights Solicitors and have described the information they released as "misleading".

A club statement said: "The crux of the matter is that the club has received planning consent for the new stadium project at every level.

"The planning permission which has been granted is legally unchallengeable and therefore the outcome of any appeal to the European Court of Human Rights will have no effect on the project's progression."
