Arsenal check on Papadopulos

Arsenal have invited Czech striker Michal Papadopulos to their Austrian training camp so they can assess the fitness of the 18-year-old from Banik Ostrava.

They are keen to sign him but they need assurances about his fitness.

Papadopulos made a big impact in his first season with Banik, but he had a knee operation earlier this month and Arsenal will wait until he has proved his fitness before negotiating any permanent deal. It could be several weeks before Papadopulos can undergo the rigorous series of tests required.

Reports that the deal has been done are inaccurate and, at most, Arsenal may have agreed a pre-contract, which will not be ratified until he is passed fit.

The player has been working with the squad in Austria but will not feature in the last two matches, against Austria Vienna tomorrow and Besiktas next Thursday.
