AFC Wimbledon plans finally approved

13 April 2012

AFC Wimbledon have been elected to the Combined Counties League.

The newly formed club, which will play at Kingstonian's Kingsmeadow ground next season, was last week refused entry to the Ryman League Division Two but can gain promotion to Ryman One by winning the Combined Counties.

Club spokesman Kris Stewart said: "We're grateful to the clubs for allowing us to play competitive football again. It was an overwhelming vote and we're looking forward to it.

"After setting up a new club in three weeks we're just relieved to have a league to play in. The club feels real now. It's good fun to be thinking about football again instead of protests and balloons."

Having appointed Lord Faulkner as chairman and former Wimbledon player Terry Eames as manager the search is on for players, and the club are holding trials on Wimbledon Common at 11am on Saturday.

The club, founded by fans opposed to Wimbledon's move to Milton Keynes, has already sold 430 season tickets.
