X Factor's Rhythmix to change name

Rhythmix have been forced to undergo a mid-series name change.

The 'X Factor' girl group - made up of Jesy Nelson, Leigh-Anne Pinnock, Perrie Edwards and Jade Thirlwall - will have to change their moniker after learning it was already trademarked to a children's music charity.

In a statement, an 'X Factor' spokesperson told BANG Showbiz: "At the request of the charity Rhythmix, the members of the girl group Rhythmix have decided to change their name, a decision which has the support of Syco and TalkbackTHAMES.

"The group's new name will be announced in due course".

While the girl band came up with the name before they were aware of the existence of the charity and the legal implications it brought with it, Mark Davyd, chief executive of Rhythmix, claimed the confusion could interfere with the work of the organisation.

In an open letter to show boss Simon Cowell, which was posted on Facebook, he said: "Rather than seeking any discussion with the charity, considering any of the moral implications of their actions.

"Or checking with the charity whether the pursuit of an exclusive trademark might have a negative impact on the activities of the charity, Simco and their legal representatives apparently sought a way to use the law to circumvent the trademark of the charity.

"Rhythmix the charity has worked with over 40,000 young people in the last twelve years. All of that work is placed at risk by the actions of your company."

Mr. Davyd ended his letter with: "Just change the name."

It is thought the girls' new moniker will be announced prior to Saturday night's live show.
