Here, in his own words, George Best speaks openly about his extraordinary life as the UK?s greatest footballing talent and the personal troubles that it brought him.

Blessed

He speaks honestly about the mistakes he has made and is incredibly candid, both about his triumphs and also the regrets he has and his hopes for the future.

Plenty has been written about Best in the past but much of it is based on speculation, gossip and second hand accounts. Now we get to hear the inside story from the man himself.

He recounts the halcyon days at Manchester United, the big games and the sensational European Cup win of £68. For the first time Best talks about the heartbreak of his mother?s death, the battles with his ex-wife Angie, and the scandals that have followed him from the bars to the bankruptcy courts and from prison to rehab.

Best is the ultimate flawed genius. His rare talent brought a beauty and grace to football that inspired a generation but this talent also turned out to be both a blessing and a burden.

With his genius on the pitch came instant fame, adoration and money, a heady mixture for anyone, but to a young lad of twenty-two it was the ticket to a hedonistic lifestyle of booze, gambling and women which would ultimately lead to his downfall. Run-ins with the paparazzi and the law only added to the legend that was George Best.

Well-known of late for his continuing battle against alcohol, Best reveals the truth about the relapses that have endangered his life.

Now, with the help of his wife Alex, he is facing his demons and looking to the future, not through the bottom of a glass, but with renewed optimism. No one said it was going to be easy, but Best has never been fazed by a challenge.
