Whitstable, or Islington-on-sea, has become a favourite with the London in-crowd. The town oozes charm. Its art community is growing by the day and its shops and restaurants boast a quality hard to beat.

There is a working harbour and miles of pebble beaches and the town is rich in maritime history with alleyways and weather-boarded cottages to charm the daytripper.

Whitstable is most associated with oysters, they have been cultivated there for more than 2,000 years and the delicacy is celebrated with the popular Whitstable Oyster Festival, 20-28 July, which coincides with the Whitstable Regatta, 27-28 July.
