Brit nominees Rudimental have promised “craziness and shocks” as they vowed to revive the event’s anarchic spirit next month.

They made the comments after the Brit nomination ceremony yesterday, which recognised a host of new artists.

Last year’s show was criticised as “stale”, and certainly a far cry from 1996, when Pulp frontman Jarvis Cocker invaded the stage during a Michael Jackson performance.

Piers Agget, 26, who makes up one quarter of the electronic rockers from Hackney, said: “Let’s bring back some craziness.”

His bandmate Leon Rolle, 26, aka DJ Locksmith, said: “There’s going to be quite a few surprises, we can’t reveal them now, but I think a lot of people are going to be shocked to see what we do.”

The drum and bass act are up for three awards, including best British single for Waiting All Night and the MasterCard British album of the year award for debut Home.

They also join boyband One Direction, Reigate DJ duo Disclosure London-based band Bastille in the hotly contested best British group category. Bastille and Disclosure top the list with four nominations each, including nods for best British single and album.

Meanwhile David Bowie faces some youthful competition for best British male solo artist, including James Blake and Tom Odell, last year’s winner of the critics’ choice award.

Jessie J, Ellie Goulding and Laura Marling are all nominated for best British female. James Corden will present the Brit awards on February 19.
