Victoria Beckham is unable to hold her five-week-old daughter because she has slipped a disc in her back.

The 37-year-old fashion designer suffered the injury while pregnant with Harper and has been in so much pain she has even had to have her husband David Beckham hold the baby while she breastfeeds.

A source said: "She was suffering with a bad back throughout her pregnancy, and then something untoward happened in the C-section, badly aggravating it. She has had an X-ray which showed she has slipped a disc in her lower back. Victoria is in a lot of pain and even struggling to hold Harper. When she goes to breastfeed, David has to basically prop-up the baby."

The former Spice Girls singer has been left upset at not being able to play with her daughter like she did with her three sons - Brooklyn, 12, Romeo, eight, and six-year-old Cruz - but is hoping it won't affect how they bond.

The source added to the Daily Mirror newspaper: "She is really down about the whole thing as she just wants to be able to play with her daughter like any new mum.

"But Victoria is trying to remain upbeat because she really does feel so blessed with the birth of her beautiful daughter. She is determined not to let this injury overshadow the happiness surrounding Harper's arrival."

David recently revealed he loves feeding Harper when he gets the opportunity.

He said: "It's so important that they have that mother/daughter bond and breastfeed, I think, is really an incredible thing.

"We're in the process of putting it in bottles now, so that means I get to feed her - which has been amazing."
