His foul mouth may be too much for some viewers here, but Gordon Ramsay has gone down a treat in the US.

The celebrity chef's Hell's Kitchen TV programme has been given a second series after winning massive ratings for the Fox network.

The show, in which 12 aspiring chefs compete to win their own LA restaurant, has seen Ramsay reduce several contestants to tears with his trademark expletives.

Fox executive Mike Darnell admitted he was surprised by the show's success, but said it was Ramsay's acerbic style that made all the difference. The exact format of the second series has yet to be revealed although viewers have been promised 'twists and turns'.

  • Jumping on the Jamie Oliver bandwagon, celeb chef Rick Stein has invited 16 dinner ladies to learn to cook fish at his seafood school. They will spend Friday at his culinary academy in Padstow, Cornwall.
