THROWN IN PRISON!

See what life was really like behind bars, as costumed interpreters take you on a tour of the Tower Of London's upper and lower Salt Towers - starting at the five-star accommodation and ending with the smaller and danker cells, inhabited by poor and friendless prisoners.

Costumed interpreters play the jail staff and arresting officers and stage mini-trials for the benefit of prison 'guests'. Tours take place six times a day. Afterwards, you can visit the new Prisoners Of The Tower exhibition, looking at documents and personal possessions relating to famous inmates.

Tower Of London, Tower Hill, EC3 (0870 756 6060). Sat 1 May, 9am-6pm, Sun 2 & Mon 3 May, 10am-6pm, £13.50, child £9, concs £10.50, family £37.50, under-fives free.
