Former Baywatch star Pamela Anderson is to front a campaign to encourage people to get themselves tested for sexually transmitted infections.

The US actress - who has the sexually transmitted virus Hepatitis C - is the new face of MAC cosmetics' VIVE GLAM campaign.

Anderson said she hopes the high profile campaign will help save lives.

"This is a wake-up call! People need to understand that HIV/AIDS is here, there is no cure, getting tested and knowing your status and the status of our sexual partners, along with practising safe sex, are the best way to protect outselves, and empower ourselves," she said.

Other supporters of the campaign include Christina Aguilera, Missy Elliot, Linda Evangelista, Chloe Sevigny, Elton John, RuPaul, K.D. Lag, Lil' Kim and Boy George.
