Courtney Love has faced backlash from Taylor Swift’s fiercely loyal fanbase after speaking ill of the superstar.

The former Hole lead singer and rhythm guitarist, 59, infuriated Swift’s fans - known as the Swifties - after she told ES Magazine: “Taylor is not important. She might be a safe space for girls, and she's probably the Madonna of now, but she's not interesting as an artist.”

In the interview with editor-in-chief of the Standard, Dylan Jones, the former wife of Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain also took aim at Lana Del Rey, Madonna, and Beyonce, leading some to claim that there was a pattern of Love slamming “more talented women” in the music industry and accused her of “trying to stay relevant”.

Taking to X, formerly Twitter, one person fumed: “I don't like Courtney Love, frankly whether she likes Taylor or not is fine, I just think she has a way of minimizing and belittling women in music.”

They added: “I find her to be an awful person; 'Courtney Love publicly puts down fellow female artists like it's a national sport’.”

Another accused the Jennifer’s Body singer of being “out of touch”, while a third said they hoped Love had her social media “notifications switched off” due the barrage of hate coming her way.

A fourth person wrote: “Not really a fan, but Taylor Swift is doing quite well for herself. Courtney Love has always been a jealous mean girl. I think she said something similar about Avril Lavigne about twenty years ago.”

Some social media users did come out in defense of Love, with one remarking: “Courtney Love has been in the industry a long time and was asked her opinion. And she wasn't wrong or made it personal.

“She gave an honest professional opinion whilst acknowledging Taylor being a safe space for her fans. The ageism and misogyny is disgusting.”

The fan also hit out at people who said they didn’t know who the grunge star was.

"’Who is Courtney Love’ is lowkey crazy u must be under 16. She is being wack though speaking on Lana but she ate what she said about Taylor.”
