TV talent show winner Steve Brookstein proved his X Factor credentials yesterday when his debut album went to the top of the chart. Heart & Soul, a collection of soul classics, knocked Akon's hip hop album Trouble off the top spot.

In the singles chart, Akon held on to the No.1 spot for the second week with Lonely, while Gorillaz jumped 18 places to two with Feel Good Inc. Tony Christie and Peter Kay fell one place to No.3 with their charity version of Amarillo.

New entries in the Top 40 included Kelly Osbourne at nine with One Word, 64-year-old Sir Cliff Richard at No.12 with What Car? and KT Tunstall at No.13 with Other Side Of the World.
