Pop star Mutya Buena of the Sugababes has announced she is to quit the chart-topping girl band.

The 20-year-old, has told bandmates Keisha Buchanan and Heidi Range that she is leaving seven years after forming the group.

Buena gave birth to her first daughter, Tahlia, in March and wants to spend more time with her at home.

The band have already recruited an as yet unnamed replacement for the singer.

Mutya said: "My decision is based purely on my personal reasons. It was very difficult - not a snap decision.

"I've enjoyed an unbelievable career so far and I'm so proud of what we've achieved with Sugababes. I'm delighted the new girl is taking my place. She's getting one of the best jobs in the world."
